The District is governed by a 5-member Board of Directors. The Board helps to determine District Policy, guides priorities, and supervises the annual budget. Members, elected by the Isla Vista voters, must live withim the District. Public elections are held every two years amd Directors serve four year terms. Terms are staggered to ensure continuity. The next election will be held in November 2012.
Public members are encouraged to attend Board meetings and express concerms regarding community issues and plans. The Board meets on the second Thursday of every month at 6:00pm at the District office. Agendas and staff reports are posted to the District website and also posted to the District bulletin board at the corner of Seville and Embarvadero Del Mar in Isla Vista, CA.

Policy and Ordinance Committee
Policy & Ordinance Committee members meet as needed to review Isla Vista Recreation and Park District Policy to ensure that the policies are consistent with California Recreation & Park District Law: California Public Resources Code Sections 5780-5791.7. The committee submits recommendations to the Board of Directors for consideration.
The Policy and Ordinance Committee is led by two board members and three members of the public. Members, chosen by the board, must live within the District. Ordinances
The Finance Committee is concerned with the financial management of the District, including the preparation of an annual budget and major expenditures. The committee considers the financial commitments and future work plan projects of the District when developing its budget and recommendations.
The committee reviews, develops and recommends fund allocations, revenue flow, current, and future capital projects and other large expenditures, budget comparisons from previous years and five-year budget projections when preparing the annual budget and work-plan for the Board of Directors. The Board considers the recommendation during the preliminary and final work-plan and budget hearings.
