Isla Vista celebrates the re-opening of Anisq’Oyo’ Bridge
Isla Vista, CA - April 8, 2011 – Isla Vista Recreation and Park District will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, April 12 at 3 pm to celebrate the completion of the new pedestrian bridge at Anisq’Oyo’ Park.
In 2009 the 25 foot bridge was closed for use due to safety concerns. With funding from the 2002 Resources Bond Act Per Capita Program and the Santa Barbara County South Coast West Quimby Trust Fund, the Isla Vista Recreation and Park District grounds crew were able to secure the materials and equipment required to build the bridge.
The newest bridge received a complete structural make-over and is finished with new paint and beautiful, locally reclaimed and milled Eucalyptus accents. It is now safe to use as well as nice to look at and will last for years to come. “The new bridge looks really nice and I’m glad this main thoroughfare is open again for everyone to use” said Annie Aziz, Recreation Coordinator for the District.
Join IVRPD for the re-opening and ribbon cutting on Tuesday, April 12 at 3:00 pm. Anisq’Oyo’ Park is located at 950 Embarcadero del Mar in Isla Vista.
