Camino Corto Open Space Preservation & Vernal Pools Habitat Restoration

The Camino Corto Open Space and Vernal Pool Reserve is in the community of Isla Vista, approximately 1/4 mile from the beach.Vernal Pool In 1988, the County of Santa Barbara purchased the property using grant funds. Subsequent grant funds enabled the County to prepare a Master Plan and, in partnership with the Isla Vista Recreation and Park District, complete site improvements which have included the creation of Tierra de Fortuna park, footpath improvements, the restoration and creation of vernal pools and enhancement of native shrubs and grasses. In 1998, the open space was deeded to the Isla Vista Recreation and Park District.
